J. 2nd South Carolina Infantry 1776

Though the South had largely been spared the rigors of war at the outset of the Revolution, the situation changed on June 18, 1776, when a British fleet of 10 heavily armed ships appeared off Charleston to enforce the King's law and give heart to the many Loyalists. But the greater part of the population had embraced the cause of Liberty and already raised and uniformed bodies of troops to defend their homes.
