Mustered into the Continental Line, 1 January 1777, and equipped largely with captured British arms, this unit was a descendant of the North Carolina Minute Men of 1775. It was to produce two officers whose fame closely paralleled that of the distinguished regiment through which they rose - Colonel Jethro Summer and Colonel James Hogun.
