W. General Marquis de Lafayette

In 1777, a wealthy and noble young Frenchman, Marquis de Lafayette, voyaged to America. He met with Congress in Philadelphia and volunteered to serve in the army without pay, to help the Americans secure their independence from Great Britain. Congress realizing Lafayette's wealth and royal family statue (related to the King of France), welcomed and commissioned him as a Major-General in the continental army (just 19 years of age). He met the American commander George Washington and both began a loyal friendship that would last for the rest of their lives....
